Climate change puts World Heritage sites at risk.

World Heritage Sites are facing detrimental effect from the threats of climate change.

The range of sites affected by this environmental issue include natural and cultural heritage sites such as national park and Easter Island statues.

The former was destroyed by storm and the latter statues in Chile are at risk of being lost to the sea because of coastal erosion.

UNESCO has been at the forefront of exploring and managing the impacts of climate change on World Heritage Sites by increasing efforts to prevent and manage the damage.

The global network of World Heritage also are helping to raise awareness on the impacts of climate change on human societies and cultural diversity, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and the world’s natural and cultural heritage.
