Valentine's day is approaching. The What's The Feed team asked around students to find out whether if they prefer materialistic gifts or gestural gifts.
A quick poll on Instagram story shows 73 percent of respondents prefer gestural gifts over materialistic gifts.

Lecturer Ooi Li Fang said she prefers gestural gifts because she hopes her partner can help do the chores when she is busy or not around the house.
"If I am a teenager I would like to receive materialistic gifts, but I am financially stable now so the things I want I can buy it easily," said Ooi

Multimedia Communication Design Student Ng Pei Yi said a simple meeting on Valentine's day is a great gift without spending money.
"I would like to meet my partner face to face on Valentine's day as we can hang out without having to spend a lot of money to buy an expensive gift might last for a few years only," said Ng
Lecturer Eric Shaun Seaton agreed with Ng's point as buying expensive gifts do not have a meaning behind it.
Seaton said people should take the initiative to make a small actions towards their partner to maintain a long lasting relationship and the actions have to be consistent throughout the whole year and not only on Valentine's day.
"A simple action like taking an extra drink from the refrigerator for your partner whether they want it or not is a great way to start the habit of showing love to your partner," said Seaton
